BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Army School Roorkee was established in 1990 by converting the erstwhile Bengal Sappers Knox Memorial School under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). It commenced as a Secondary School for Classes I to X and was affiliated to CBSE in 1990 vide CBSE, New Delhi letter No.CBSE/Aff/21439/90 2132-35 dated 27 Jul 90.The School became a Senior Secondary School in 1992-93 with the introduction of Science Stream. The Commerce Stream was introduced from the Academic Session 1994-95 and the Humanities Stream from the Session 2000-2001 onward, making it one of the very few APSs to offer all the three streams together. NCC was introduced in 1998 for Boys and for Girls it was introduced in 2006.
It remained Army School till 30 June 2011 and was rechristened Army Public School with effect from 01 July 2011. The School was re-designated as Army Public School No.1 wef 01 Apr 2012. There is a three-tier command and regulatingsystem i.e. Board of Governors and its Executive Committee at Army Headquarters, Board of Administration at Headquarters Command and Managing Committee at the Station level.
With a humble beginning in 1990 with 215 students and 12 educators, the School today is providing quality education to over 2300 students with 100+ educators. As time flipped its pages the School progressed leaps and bounds and carved a respectable niche’ for itself in the city and among the other APSs across the country. It is the first in the city to have appointed a professionally qualified Counsellor (2006), is among the firsts in providing Technology Aided Learning (2013-14), setting up of an English Language Lab (2014), Inclusive Education Resource Room (2021) and an Atal Tinkering Lab (2023). During the Academic Session 2022-23 under the able guidance of the Chairman Brig Rajesh Singh, VSM modernization work of the school building, lobby, entrance and creation of the infrastructure in tune with New Education Policy 2020 was carried out. On 03 Jul 2023, Golden Fish Army Pre-Primary School No.2 (Balvatika – I to Balvatika – III) merged with APS No.1 Roorkee. Now our school is K-12, offering valuable education from Blavatika – I all the way through to Class XII.
The credentials of the School are multiple and varied and the success stories of its students are numerous with progression in every conceivable fields.The School has consistently been getting very good results in the Board Examinations. In sports and Co-curricular competitions our students have been performing exceedingly well at the District, State and National Levels. Our aim is to provide quality education, character formation, and all-around development of students. The Managing Committee and staff strive hard to achieve this aim.
